AI-Driven Math Education Workshops Coming to Hawaii This July

Hawaii educators will have the opportunity to transform their math instruction through The Stack Workshop, a groundbreaking professional development program coming to two locations in July 2025. Presented in partnership with Maui Economic Development Board’s STEMworks program, the immersive one-day workshop demonstrates how to integrate artificial intelligence tools with student-centered teaching methods to effectively close math skills gaps quickly for students who need additional support.

The Stack framework has already shown remarkable success in California classrooms, where 9th grade Algebra students achieved over two grade levels of growth in less than one semester. Using Renaissance Star assessment data, students who began the year at a 6.71 grade level math proficiency demonstrated significant gains through the program's unique blend of human-centered pedagogy and AI-enhanced instruction.

"Rather than replacing educators, AI in The Stack acts as a powerful amplifier—enhancing constructivist pedagogy through just-in-time data interventions and personalized tutoring," explains workshop creator and facilitator Brendan Brennan, an educator and innovator who previously taught at the University Laboratory School in Honolulu and contributed to multiple NSF-funded grants exploring constructivist approaches to math instruction. Brennan is the co-founder of Design Mindset, an education technology organization.

The workshops will take place on July 9th at Kalaheo High School on Oahu and July 14th at Maui Economic Development Board’s Kihei office on Maui. The cost per participant is $249, which includes lunch, beverages, and a premium Snorkl account. Group discounts are available, and continuing education credit is available through Fresno Pacific University. STEMworks will provide 30 scholarships for STEMworks teachers on Maui and 10 scholarships for STEMworks teachers on Oahu. Contact chloe@medb.org for more information about scholarships.
